So I’m sat here, noodling away with things, and stuff (like we all do) and I’ve *still* not gone outside to test my new speed rope from RX Jump Ropes. It’s an insanely sunny day with a crisp nip in the air (and a bit of a bite in the shadows), yet I’ve opted for sitting indoors planning world domination.
There is a method to the madness mind. Tuesday afternoon last week, I went to the gym…I had a set program in mind (currently hammering the hammies, glutes and quads) as well as weights and time. Never more than an hour in the gym, out of that probably 20-25mins is weights, the rest involves a warmup, stability exercises that target the gluteus maximus and gluteus medius (as my physio lovingly says, I “got a weak ass!”), mobility work (mm, foam rollers!) and some breathing meditation to round it off.
If doing Crossfit for a while is anything to stand by (and it is, but like everything it has its downfalls too), a LOT of work can be done in next to no time that will cause you to feel the after effects later on. So with the dumbbell thrusters and front squats endured on Tuesday, I’ve been subjected to probably the most painful delayed on set muscle soreness I’ve had in a long time. Thursday I was skulking around work doing a terrible John Wayne impression whilst grumbling obscenities about my stupidity under my breath. Friday, officially my first day being “unemployed” was spent firmly horizontal in bed scoffing cheesecake (yeah, a whole one…shush) as I knew full well the likelihood of me doing *anything* that day was zero.
Fast forward Monday afternoon and there’s still some lactic acid left in my VMO’s and some hanging around my quads. Thankfully I’ve been getting used to mashing out the tightness of my Iliotibial band on a foam roller, but it still sucks for a while after.
So that’s 6 days between workouts! Not Good!!
The weather’s getting better, so I think a spell of HIIT training in the park is imminent. Between getting my double-unders down, tabata-style bodyweight mini-WODs and eventually getting my gym rings out over some trees, hopefully I won’t be pulling this 6-day rest thing!
Really…if that’s even too much at the moment, just going for a 10-15min session of speed rope techniques in the park plus some bodyweight drills has to happen!
What with the Olympics coming up and being involved with that I can’t really afford to be out of whack for it. Long shifts, are Long!
Here’s some epic jump rope ninja skillz, because that mess doesn’t get forgotten at the playground!
Don’t forget to breathe.
